Sai Baba says selfless service at the highest or first level in the hierarchy of spiritual path. In 1979 in a summer course on Spirituality in 1979, Sai Baba said, “Selfless service is the best means of attaining spiritual progress than other means such as meditation, bhajan and yoga. This is so because when we undertake meditation, Japa (repetition of the name of God), or yoga, we do so exclusively for our own benefit and not for the good of others. These are aimed at fulfilling one’s individual desires and securing happiness for oneself. However, we should aspire for the attainment of the good of others without any desire for personal gain”.
Seva Actvities in Sathya Sai Centre of Scarborough
The Seva Wing performs service to the needy in an organized way. The Seva Wing also assists in the arrangements during the bi-weekly bhajan, celebrations like Sri Sathya Sai Baba's Birthday, Siva Ratri, Global Akanda Bhajan, Guru’ s Workshop / training programs, Poornima etc. The seva activities of our centre include:
- Narayana Seva – every 5th Saturday of the month
- Wheel Chair Cleaning
- Collection and distribution of blankets to the Homeless people.
- Preparation and distribution of sandwiches to the needy people.
- Cook brunch at kids shelter
- Tree Planting
- Blood Donation Camps
